2011 Successes

Orion/Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle System
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden announced May 24, 2011 that the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle system will be based on designs originally planned for the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle.  The program directly supports more than 1,000 high-tech jobs in Colorado (mostly at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company), and thousands more indirectly across the state.  According to the Denver Post, the program produces $300 million in annual revenue.
1099 Reporting Requirements
Both the Senate and the House reached an agreement to eliminate the extension of 1099 reporting requirements mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  The extension would have placed undue burden on businesses, especially small businesses.  President Obama signed H.R. 4 in to law on April 14, 2011, finalizing the repeal.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Congress has appropriated $450.7 million in the FY 2011 budget for the construction of the new VA Medical Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District in Aurora, CO.  In total, $800 million has been authorized and $758 million has been appropriated for the new VA Medical Center.
Patent Reform
In September 2011, the Senate passed the final version of the America Invents Act, a very important patent and trademark reform bill, and President Obama followed by signing the Act in to law.  The Act represents a much-needed step in reforming the United States’ outdated and inefficient patent system, and it allows for three or more satellite United States Patent and Trademark Offices to be established.  Accelerate Colorado expressed strong support for the inclusion of the provision allowing for the new satellite offices, and we will continue to work to ensure that Colorado is selected as one of the locations.
Eagle P3 Full Funding Grant Agreement
In August 2011, RTD was awarded a $1.03 billion Full Funding Grant Agreement to fund the build-out of the Eagle P3 project which includes the East Corridor Commuter Rail Line to DIA, the Gold Commuter Rail Line to Arvada, and a new Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility.  This is the largest grant awarded under the Obama Administration, which speaks to the importance of the project.
